But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. (Hebrews 3:13 ESV)
As I read this I had to ask myself these questions:
1). Who am I exhorting on a daily basis in their walk with Jesus?
2). Who do I have in my life who does this?
3). How important do other Christians on a whole really take this verse to heart? Does it even come up as a reality?
I’m thankful for my wife and my family. I’m thankful for the friends that God has placed in my life. Christ-focused relationships are absolutely incredible. But am I exhorting them daily? Am I allowing them to exhort me daily? This is a non-negotiable. L
Sin is so attractive and misleading. It actually comes across as fun and exciting, providing happiness for the seekers of the next “happy high.” But here’s where I think it gets cheap.
So many people settle for “happy” instead of chasing after joy. Happy leaves me submissive and subservient to situations and circumstances. Joy leaves me free to face any situation that may come my way, having a perspective that does not hide the pain but rather gives me a different angle to see God’s hand in the midst of it. Happy is on the surface. Joy takes me so much deeper.
I don’t want to settle. I don’t want my family members in Jesus to settle. I don’t want those without Christ to settle. I want us all to seek Christ and receive joy. I want to see people fall more and more in love with Christ resulting in their lives being transformed instead of seeing us all settle for cheap trinkets and knock-offs.
It all starts with you and me. Please constantly bring this to my mind so that I would be reminded to obey. This is so important. Thank you for your warning about it.
1). Who do you exhort in their relationship with Jesus on a daily basis?
2). Who exhorts you?
